COOLTHERM ES-21

Main features

  • 35,000 cP Dispensing Viscosity
  • UV Fluorescence for In-Line Inspection
  • 60-Minute Cure at 125 deg C

Product Description

CoolTherm ES-21 Electronic Encapsulant is a one-part, black, heat-curing epoxy encapsulant for electronic components. Typical viscosity is 35,000 cP at 25 deg C, and the non-abrasive filler is suited to automatic dispensing equipment. A fluorescent dye allows UV detection during in-line inspection. The cure schedule is 60 minutes at 125 deg C after the material reaches the target temperature. Typical cured thermal conductivity is 0.5 W/(m K), with a stated service-temperature range of -55 to +130 deg C.

Key features

  • Automatic-dispensing viscosity: Typical viscosity is 35,000 cP at 25 deg C, with non-abrasive filler suited to automatic dispensing.
  • UV inspection fluorescence: A fluorescent dye makes the applied encapsulant detectable under UV light for in-line inspection.
  • Elevated-temperature cure: The cure schedule is 60 minutes at 125 deg C after the material reaches the target temperature.

Applications

Electronic component encapsulation.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
